SHAH ALAM: Be a citizen journalist with the leading Malay tabloid, Harian Metro, and its Sunday edition, the Metro Ahad.
The two publications yesterday launched i-Metro, an interactive portal providing readers a chance to be the eyes and ears of their community.
New Straits Times Press group editor-in chief Datuk Hishamuddin Aun said i-Metro would allow readers a forum to convey their views.
"Using their handphones, readers can post pictures and information which can be shared by all," he said during the launching of the portal here. Also present were VC Communications Sdn Bhd chief executive Zain Shah Mohamad Shah, Dapat Vista (M) Sdn Bhd president Sabri Ab Rahman and Harian Metro/ Metro Ahad executive editor Mustapa Omar.
Hishamuddin said the technology provided by Dapat Vista enabled interactive communication through SMS and MMS between readers and the two newspapers.
Five best MMS will be selected every week, with the winners taking home M-Mobile handphones each worth RM500, sponsored by VC Communications.
The i-Metro is divided into three parts — IM Lapur, IM Komen and IM Pilih — allowing the reader to select any specific type of information.
Harian Metro and Metro Ahad have a readership of 1.6 million daily, with 79 per cent of readers aged between 15 and 39.
